Small groups, best care

The unique layout of Charlwood House allows children to be grouped in small classes according to their age and development. The very youngest start in our newly-refurbished baby unit and children progress through designated, age-specific rooms as they grow and develop.

Staff to child ratios are:

  • Bumblebees  (3 months to 2 years) 1:3
  • Caterpillars  (1 to 2 years) 1:3
  • Crickets and Dragonflies (2 to 3 years) 1:4
  • Fireflies and Mayflies (3 to 5 years) 1:8

This allows the staff to tailor individual learning and play to help develop self-confidence in each child - and to identify and nurture the talents in all.

We offer a dedicated secure baby unit for the very youngest. Parents are encouraged to discuss their child's activity and progress at any time with the staff working directly with their children. Regular written reports are also provided.

Each room has its own distinct character, its own look and feel. Warm, and friendly, and very much influenced by the children themselves!

Programmes for play and learning are regularly reviewed to ensure they keep children stimulated and involved.

Ofsted say...'This childcare provision is good'!

Management are very 'hands on' and lead by example. They place a strong emphasis on the setting's strengths and areas for development and have developed a broad range of ambitious targets in order to continually improve.

Staff are highly motivated and work exceptionally well as a team to create a safe and secure learning environment for children.

Staff value working in partnership with parents so that they are fully involved in their children's learning and development. This prepares children well for the next stage in their education.

Staff have a thorough knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage. They use their skills and knowledge to promote good learning outcomes for children.
